You Can’t Choose

Utilizing the nature of these familial images as either lost or discarded property to establish a primary iteration of distance, You Can’t Choose showcases a collection of gestural details mined from photographs that function as documents of familial or care-environment experience, where the recognition of behavioural code is commonly aqcuired and developed.

Due to the construction of the archive itself as an entity which, outside of the initial learning environment that it documents, aims to re-present only the most favourable experiences and milestones, the work pulls into question the integrity of the visual family record as a collection of materials that has the capacity to influence how an audience to this record reflects upon their own lived experience.
